Science

At Shooters Grove Primary School, we believe that in order for children to understand the world around them, they need to be immersed in a high-quality science education. Science and Engineering are rapidly growing and important industries in the modern world. Even if children do not become scientists or engineers, they will grow up in a world that requires scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. We are committed to providing a stimulating, engaging and challenging learning environment where children are taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science and how these relate to the real world. We work hard to provide a rich and varied curriculum to challenge and meet the needs of our children, to foster a sense of wonder about natural phenomena and to ensure all children are curious and excited about the world they live in. From EYFS up to KS2, our pupils will build up a body of key foundational knowledge, concepts and vocabulary. We ensure that the Working Scientifically skills are built-on and developed throughout children’s time at the school. We want our children to apply their knowledge of science when using equipment, conducting experiments, building arguments, explaining concepts confidently and continue to ask questions about their surroundings. Specialist vocabulary for topics is taught and built up, and effective questioning to communicate ideas is encouraged. We intend to provide all children regardless of ethnic origin, gender, class, aptitude or ability, with a broad and balanced science curriculum and to inspire them for future science, technology, engineering, and maths careers.
