Early Years Foundation Stage

 

Here at Shooters Grove Primary School our EYFS consists of a 39 place Nursery and a 60 place Reception unit.

Our Nursery and Reception are both in separate purpose built units with access to a large outdoor environment.

As with all EYFS providers we follow the early years foundation stage curriculum. The EYFS areas are:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotional development
  • literacy
  • mathematics
  • understanding the world
  • expressive arts and design

At Shooters Grove we strive to provide our children with exciting learning opportunities and experiences within a broad and balanced curriculum. This prepares our children to become enthusiastic , resilient and confident learners. We are passionate about providing an environment that is inclusive and nurturing helping our children to develop necessary skills to become self-motivated, inquisitive with a love of learning.

Our curriculum is designed around the needs of our children and community whilst providing progression through Nursery and Reception with a strong focus on outdoor, hands on learning. We aim to build on children's prior knowledge and through continuous provision, focus activities and a rich and varied environment support children to develop skills and gain knowledge.

We feel we provide all children at Shooters Grove with a positive start to school life. We are proud of the confident, enthusiastic, responsible children that move into Key Stage One ready to begin the next part of their school journey.

Curriculum Intent / Aims

At Shooters Grove Primary School we intend that our inclusive curriculum educates all children in the knowledge, skills and understanding, to be inquisitive, effective, independent learners across all areas of the curriculum.

Our curriculum aims/intends to:

  • Enable pupils to develop knowledge and skills to meet or exceed the Early learning Goals at the end of their Reception year.
  • To provide opportunities for all children to access the seven areas of learning through a rich and purposeful environment and through a balance of whole class/group teaching and play based learning.
  • To give pupils the opportunity to develop the Characteristics of Effective Learning helping them to become well rounded, resilient, independent learners with a love of the outdoors and the ability to problem solve and think creatively.
  • Ensure equal access to learning for all pupils, with high expectations for every pupil and appropriate levels of challenge and support.
  • Promote a positive attitude for learning, supporting all children to engage in activities and challenges with enthusiasm, excitement and a love of learning
  • To give pupils the interpersonal, physical, social, emotional and academic skills to be well equipped and ready for Key Stage One.
